Works as advertised
Works as advertised, displays memory info in a meaningful way. After upgrading to Mavericks I was upset that Apple had replaced the colourful pie chart in the Activity Monitor memory tab with a simple “Memory Pressure” graph that didn’t convey much to me. Memory Monitor (is it just my imagination or was it once called Memory Diag?) brings back that wonderful pie-chart view in real time, AND adds an OPTIMIZE button to boot (which Activity Monitor never had). Now HOW COOL IS THAT?!! I admit I am now rather obsessed with checking it every now and then, and OPTIMIZEing my memory when the CACHE (the blue segment) grows big. (It actually works, I had 38 apps open and closed them all, and it was able to clean up the cache really quickly.) All in all, great on a Mac with 8GB RAM, which is still quite a bit of legroom. Plus the app doesn’t have that big of a memory footprint.
I actually installed this just for the Today View widget, which does okay if a little unexciting (compared to the menu bar item I mean). I wish the big pentacoloured donut chart could also be included in the Today View widget, then I could check my memory as well as OPTIMIZE without having to open the app.
